Sir William Patey, May 10th – UK Ambassador to Afghanistan

Current British Ambassador to Afghanistan
From 2002-5 he was the Ambassador to Sudan.
From 2005-6 he was the Ambassador to Iraq.
From 2007-10 he was the Ambassador to Saudi Arabia

Sir William gave evidence to The Iraq Inquiry on November 24, 2009 and January 5, 2010 in which he said that he received almost daily instruction from the Prime Minister during the period 2005 to 2006 while serving as Ambassador to Iraq

Sir William Patey joined the FCO in 1975 after receiving an MA in Modern History from the University of Dundee, he later attended the Middle East Centre for Arabic Studies (MECAS) from 1977 to 1978.
